Sore Sooner Loser

So University of Oklahoma president David Boren sent a letter to the Big 12 commissioner asking that the results of Saturday’s game between the Sooners and Oregon be voided and that the Pac-10 officials involved be suspended for the rest of the season.
Don’t we have enough blowhards inside the world of sports without recruiting more from beyond the borders?
I understand how the man feels. He is upset because of the highly controversial nature of the outcome. The officials did blow it. They made poor decisions both on the onsides kick and the pass interference call after it. Oklahoma probably should have won.
However ...
In the course of a 60-minute football game, there is ample opportunity to win. I would say this about any team on the losing end of a close contest: If you allow the game to come down to the final minute or two, you run the risk of something like that happening. Play better the entire game and maybe you won’t be crying later.
Also, Boren is popping off in order to pander to the citizens of the great state of Oklahoma. He used to be a U.S. Senator, and some habits die hard.
He knows darn well that the results will not be voided. He also should have known that the Pac-10 officials would not be suspended for the rest of the season (they were banned for one game). He’s just letting off steam in public in the hopes that everybody in the state will see what a passionate fan he is.
Instead of looking like the leader of the Sooner Nation, he looks like a sore loser and a fool.
