Another Round...

Made another trip to the state fair last night for what was one of the best concerts I have seen in a while - Cross Canadian Radweed It may have been the nostalgia of the event, seeing that I spent most of my college career (outside of class and studying, sorta), listening to their music either live on “the strip” or at a house party in Stillwater, OK. It may have been the fact that the concert took place after the bull riding portion of a professional rodeo (a perfect fit). It may have been the crowd of rowdy cowboys and cowgirls compacted together on the arena dirt. Something about that concert set it apart from the others.
A high point was certainly during the introduction of the band members about ¾ of the way through the show when each member would demonstrate their skills on their instrument. The drum solo blew me away. Only one other drummer on the regional scene has a more powerful solo and that is the show opening solo for Caroline’s Spine.
If you’re a fan of Red Dirt / alternative country music, Cross Canadian Ragweed is probably in your collection. If not, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Cross Canadian will release a new live album at the end of this month. They are kings of the live album and this one should be the best so far as it was recorded at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. Live and Loud at Cain’s Ballroom will definitely be added to my collection.
Going to the two concerts this week reminds me of how much I like seeing live shows. I think I will make a concerted effort to see more shows in the future. With the surplus of October and November concerts coming up, I think I will get my fill.
