I'm a private weather industry business leader with 18 years of applied operations, sales and marketing experience.

So this memo was posted on Twitter a little earlier and outlines something the industry has quietly noted for a few years now. Supply has met demand in the governmental side of weather and there’s no question privatized weather is hiring advanced degreed mets far before those with a Bachelors as well.

It’s a sad reality that anyone with an expectation of working in an operational meteorology position will be up against at least 6 years of college - equating to 6 years worth of student loan debt. Upon exiting school with that advanced degree, the realization will quickly set in that supply & demand has suppressed salary potential.

All of this for lackluster pay and a career of shift work. It takes special people for sure.
